The purpose of this page is to let you know what's going on at InlandRail. We also will post upcoming events
we think you may be interested in.
Here's the "latest and greatest"...
- 11/22/2010: It's been a while, eh—what can I say? We do have something cool coming up. It's our very first holiday party, and it's intended for up to 100 of our closest InlandRail friends. It'll be on Tuesday, December 4 at Luigi's Italian Restaurant. Check out the announcement flyer. Hope to see you there! We'll ask Trudy to take some pictures of the event.
- 8/25/2009: Inlandrail will be sponsoring a showing of the informative and thought provoking PBS documentary, Blueprint America: Road to the Future at the Magic Lantern from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 8. This one-hour video plays well to InlandRail's vision. Additionally, we hope to be able to offer a candidate forum with the City Council candidates that the InlandRail board will have endorsed for the upcoming November general election. InlandRail board president, KC Traver will moderate the event, and we further hope that other regional dignitaries will be able to attend. The event will provide an excellent opportunity for us to help "educate" the candidates and also dialogue with the attendees. We think that the Magic Lantern will be a great venue for this type of function.
For many folks, these are the dinner hours. Not to worry—Isabella's is in the same complex. You could eat and then just step right over to the theater, staying inside all the time. The Magic Lantern also has some great treats. Check out their website. We encourage you to mark your calendars.
- 8/15/2009: Well, we did Unity in the Community today, and once again there was a lot of interest in light rail. We had a chance to talk with a couple of Spokane city council candidates. Trudy took some photos. For the most part, the weather cooperated, but as we were getting ready to pack up, the skies opened up and we got dumped on. Oh, well...
- 8/14/2009: Man, we've been lax in servicing this page! We did the South Perry Street Fair on July 18. KC and others were there, and this year KC got a few more photos. Check them out here. Tomorrow we'll be doing Unity in the Community down at Riverfront Park.
- 9/4/2008: Pigout In The Park concluded Monday night. What a HOOT! Nearly 100 new Friends signed up, and we got well over 1300 signatures on our petition to the STA Board to resume planning for regional rail transit. For the most part, the weather cooperated. We staffed the booth from 10am to at least 9pm every day, Wednesday through the following Monday. Interest in our endeavor is skyrocketing. Check out the photos.
- 8/26/2008: Pigout In The Park starts tomorrow, and runs through Monday (Labor Day), 9/1/2008. InlandRail will be staffing a booth, where we will be handing out literature, signing up new Friends, and new for us—we'll be "selling" InlandRail T-shirts for a $15 donation. So, come on down, sign up, and help us get the word out by getting a T-shirt. Let's keep our fingers crossed for the weather!
- 4/20/2008: Earth Day was yesterday. It may have been cold and a bit windy at times, but it snowed a little!
Undeterred, a number of InlandRail board members and friends bundled up and staffed the InlandRail booth. Over the course
of the day, quite a few people showed up at the park to partake of the festivities. And, truth be known, there were
some times when the sun broke through and the breeze died down, and it actually was spring-like. It was
gratifying that so many people took time to talk with ussixty people signed up as new Friends of InlandRail. Check out the photos.
- 4/6/2008: Earth Day 2008 is coming up on April 19.
It will be held in the Gondola Fountain Meadows down at Riverfront Park, from 11am to 3pm. The InlandRail board and
some friends will be there staffing a booth. Come on down and check out our new banner. We'll have some literature and other
stuff. Plus, you'll be able to put names with faces. Now's the time to ask your questionsthere
will no dearth of answers, and maybe even an opinion or two! This is our first "official" event. Stay tuned, because
we are planning our "coming out party" for a future date.
- 3/20/2008: The new web site is now fully functional. Users can now sign up and/or donate electronically by using the
appropriate on-line forms.
- 12/15/2007: We changed our name from Friends of Rail Transit to The Inland Empire Rail Transit Association.
This was not a hasty decision. Rather, it reflects the members' and board's desire to "re-brand" as InlandRail prepares
to embark on its mission.
- 11/19/2007: We have obtained our business license. Notably, we have also chosen NOT to pursue 501(c)(3) status, in order
to keep our advocacy-related options open; we do, however remain non-profit.
- 11/09/2007: We have adopted our bylaws, and are now obtaining
our business license. Concurrently, we have begun the tedious process of registering as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
to ensure that your contributions will be tax deductible.
